Porto

Porto

Lesser known than the capital and slightly smaller, Porto is still the second largest city in Portugal and every bit as enticing. Home to the beautiful River Douro and the infamous Ribiera district, a World Heritage Site where narrow alleyways are permeated with ancient churches; Porto may not have the same grand appeal as Lisbon, but this most certainly does not retract from everything it has to offer.
Whether you spend an afternoon drinking port at Vila Nova de Gaia, wandering through art exhibitions in Fundacao Serralves or taking a boat trip down the Douro River, there are many experiences here to keep tourists entertained. That being said this is the starting point for most visitors and a base from which to start exploring the countryside in Douro Valley nearby, and world-class port in the many vineyards throughout the region.
